A lot of posts I've read lately have been political in nature. I tried to not say much, though I did complain about the effects of living in a battleground state with all the lobbying schmuck being thrown around. I have never been more grateful to not own a tv!
I am excited for this new Presidential era. It will be a time for people to settle down and hopefully stop looking at all the things that are going wrong, but instead, focus on what is going right. And, as there will be things that do go wrong, perhaps we as a people will be more willing to do something, instead of finding someone to blame for what is going wrong.
I appreciate that my friends are not those who have sat passively by with problems, but have done something about it. Unfortunately, you all live far far away.
I have found it most interesting that 'all our problems in America are the fault of one man.'
I know there are some ideas that I don't fully support President Bush on, but I feel he has been disrespected and made to bear the blame for things that were beyond his control. Perhaps I'm old-fashioned in thinking that elected officials deserve our respect, even whilst in disagreement with them; frankly, I'm embarrassed for my country, and the way we've treated this man.
Here is an article that speaks more eloquently on the subject.
And another.

I find it embarrassing as well; good for you to speak up about it. It is ludicrous to think that all of America's problems can be traced to one man (just as successes are all not attributable just to the president as well).
I also think that disagreeing with politics does not naturally lead to being rude.
Am I the only one who was hoping this blog was going to include a video of you lip-synching to Aretha Franklin?
Totally agree with you for what it's worth, though. I'm so tired of Bush-bashing. It was SO 5 years ago.
it seems the prevailing idea for a long time is that it's okay to bash what's not your own because the other side's obviously in bed the devil.
i've always found it funny that it was totally fine to disrespect Clinton in the 90s, but if someone brought up a valid point (not even bashing!) about the Bush presidency it was disrespecting the office of the president. i mean, seriously? now these same people are posting some pretty hateful things about Obama
i'm with you, more is accomplished when respect is included. I might heavily lean to one side politically, but whenever there's meshugas thrown around, it drives me crazy.
And I agree with Jeremy. Where's the lip sync video?
sigh.
Perhaps this is more a self-confidence issue of sorts??
It seems that if one person is doing well (i.e. has power), somehow it means that we suck. (I hate that word, but feel it's appropriate.)
I always will be grateful for E. Holland's talk about the Prodigal Son.
Vanessa: I know it's not just Bush who's being bashed - Bush in particular came up because of seeing so many people join the 'Bush's Last Day in Office' on facebook. And it's been a long month of schmucking, and I was just tired.
Seriously.
I'm glad that ...
side note: as I was composing this blog-ment, my screensaver came on with the word prolix. I thought it was appropriate.
.. (at least, I hope) because I post something leaning politically one way, I think that anything from the other side is eeeevviiillll. Because, well, I don't.
To Jeremy and Vanessa.
I'm so glad you two have now met, because I've been plotting out here in the NC, which happens to be way cooler than the OC, that you two should be friends, because you have freakishly similar ideas. That's all.
And you both attend/work at that new winery in Orem. Ooovvoo, I think it's called.
If this happens, perhaps I will consider said video.
hmmmm, self confidence issue. i think probably. the democrats in the 1980s spent the whole decade throwing hissy fits about the republicans instead of coming up with some good answers to the ills of the decade. it's no wonder no democrat was elected to the presidency that decade.
i think this thing spreads to all facets of politics and life. See here and here. Or you could reference the BYU-Utah (football) rivalry. Or the question of which language is better, Spanish or Portuguese.
Either we don't want to work for an answer, or there is no answer, per se, just opinion. However it ends up, it sure seems like there are a lot of temper tantrums.
I didn't agree with most of the decisions the Bush administration made, I'll admit it. But, I realize that he had a whole bunch of people advising him.
And that is why, even though I am excited for the Changes Obama promised I realize that they will be few and far between...because really the powers of the president are limited, and I'm kind of glad they are because if they weren't we wouldn't be the united states of america.
wow.
Those links make my heart hurt.
One, I'm so very grateful I'm not in charge of all of us here on earth. But, two, I know I can't just throw up my hands and say, not my problem.
