So, I'm moving to Greensboro, North Carolina.
It's exciting, though at times, I am filled with the unknown - a bunch of what-ifs. But, life is too short for those, no?
If any of you were wondering, the trip from Mapleton, UT to Greensboro, NC is approximately thirty-one hours. That's almost three days of traveling! If I'm going to spend that long driving, I've decided to make the trip fun. I have a few possible ideas for stops along the way: Chicago, Nauvoo, St. Louis, etc. But, I haven't been out that way for a while, and I don't think I've ever really been to the midwest.
Where are some neat places to stop off at on a cross-country road trip? Most anything in the middle of the country is on the way, so that's not really a problem. It'll probably be me and my grandpa who make the trek, but he's more used to adventures than I, so that won't be an issue. Let's call it, one last hurrah! before school starts again.
Many thanks in advance.

Ooh! When are you leaving? I live in Iowa City which is on I-80, and Nauvoo is only 90 minutes away. Maybe we can meet up!! But it depends when you're going because I'm moving to Atlanta soon!
jackie lynn giles burkhart lives in chicago right now. we just got back from visiting them. i would definitely say go see chicago; i loved it there! i'm totally planning on moving now...i just need to convince my husband that the weather there isn't so bad.
Independence, MO and Liberty Jail are kind of a downer, but also kind of a must-see. Also Adam-ondi-ahman. Good place for a picnic. These are all in the same area.
Winter Quarters (in Omaha, NE) temple is nice, though small. They have a visitors' center and a cemetery for all the people who died that winter. There's also a fabulous zoo and aquarium in Omaha.
I would never pass up the chance to stop in Nauvoo, and chicago has some great stuff to do and see. I've only ever been to the northern midwest, so don't have much to say about the path you will be taking.
Once you get to NC, and you are ready to take a trip north come to NYC and we'll love to see you and show you the New York only the locals can find.
